Celebrating 100 years of International Women's Day today, a celebration of womanhood. A day dedicated to salute a woman..wow!
I felt good about that and updated my status on facebook "Happy women's day"..few mins later, got a message from one of my skeptical friend inquiring for why I am feeling so special about it? Is it worth to be felt this way?
In his words: "I find it derogatory...wherein a day is celebrated as International Women's day. It gives out clear message that women are being appeased off the axiom of their current position in the patriarchal societies all over the world. It is a rhetoric, a lip service to 50% of world population....nothing could have been a more saccharine coated irony.."
Never intended to go this deep..thought to give an obvious response "..I am hopeful, just like few raising voices managed to end sati-pratha, someday I am sure..we will manage to end other atrocities too. This day is just to remind and revive those beliefs.” I might have sounded utterly positive but inside there was an incertitude that could have been easily felt.
My friend quoted this day as " One-day wonder/attempts for the sake of women" and I still standby with my answer. "even an hour dedicated to a particular issue that until otherwise remains unsaid/unseen, would be fine to at least draw the attention of this totally unfair, blind-folded, self-centric World.
I wish the core should not be forgotten by restricting this day to mere as celebration.
Ending this note with few lines:

ReplyDelete@Mohit and Himanshuji Thankyou so much for liking the post.. :)
ReplyDeleteWomen's Day is not celebrated as Hindi Diwas or Human rights day ( to make us realise about its exixstence and to make more and more people aware of it)
ReplyDeleteWomen's Day is celebrated to salute the most important form of life on earth .. The Woman . Dedicating a whole day world over to celebrate this glory is what man can atleast do ..
@ashish True. we should just celebrate and feel good about this dedicated day when the world is celebrating for us. Ignoring the exceptions that still not every man salutes d womanhood..and not every woman celebrates d glory of being woman.
